Sales Forecast Template
Forecast sales growth with precision: leads, conversion rates, headcount, commission and tools.
Why use this template?
Over the years, we have gone through 4 VPs of Sales at our venture-backed, B2B SaaS company. None of them were good at preparing a sales forecast.
The most common way they forecasted sales was to set a new business revenue goal for the year. Assign a quota to a sales rep. Then multiply the quota by the number of sales reps it would take to produce our new business goal.
At our peak, we doubled our team size from 15 sales reps to 30 within 6 months. And we missed our number big time. We wasted millions of dollars on unproductive sales reps and sales operations personnel.
From then on, we forecasted sales differently. We always started with the marketing forecast to calculate how many leads we expected to generate for the sales team. Then hired against that plan.
I hope this template saves you from wasting precious capital and increases the likelihood of hitting your growth goals.

How to use this template
Here's how I recommend you develop your sales forecast using this template:
- First, review the contents of this template. Review each tab to familiarize yourself with the information.
- Experiment with different growth scenarios using the Growth Scenario Planner.
- Once you choose your growth goals, use our Marketing Budget Template to forecast demand.
- Then copy and paste the lead numbers into the Sales Forecast Template.
- Input your conversion metrics, rep productivity metrics, and build your hiring plan.
- Lastly, summarize your total Sales Budget in the Summary tab including headcount, commission, tools and paid sales campaigns.
